Keep Your Laptop From Overheating

Have you been having problems with your laptop overheating? Looking for a way to keep its temperature under control? Just follow these simple tips to keep your laptop operating at a normal and safe temperature.

It helps if you have software installed that will monitor your laptop's temperature for you. Sure, you can check it from BIOS, but how convenient is that? Using BIOS to monitor temperature means constantly rebooting to check. There is plenty of freeware out there that is easy to use. This software will give you greater control of your system and especially your power management.

Aside from power management software, what other options do you have? Well, first and foremost, avoid placing your laptop in places where there is no air circulation, or where the air circulation is minimal. This means don't set it on your bed, or on a sofa. If you take a look, most likely the air your laptop fan uses is taken from the bottom of the laptop. It is important that your laptop be placed on a flat surface that allows for air to circulate.

Now if this is somewhat inconvenient, then you need to purchase an external cooling system. Relatively inexpensive, these units attach to the bottom of your laptop, provide additional cooling, and can be powered through a USB port. With an external cooler in place, you can place your laptop on your bed and not have to worry about overheating.

If you find that no matter what you do, your laptop is overheating and you can't keep the temperature down, then you need to make sure that the fan is working. Sometimes it is something blocking the rotation, such as too much dust. A small vacuum cleaner can resolve this quickly. If cleaning the area around the fan does not help, then you may have a malfunctioning fan which needs replacement. Do so as soon as possible. It does not cost much and is certainly cheaper than buying a new laptop!
